Millard Oscar Winstead

Millard Oscar “Poss” Winstead, 78, of Sandy Cross passed away Tuesday. A graveside service will be 3 p.m. Thursday in Evergreen Memorial Park, Wilson. The Rev. Jimmy Reavis will officiate.
The family will receive friends 1 – 2:30 p.m. preceding the graveside service at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson and other times at the home.
“Poss” was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to all that knew him. He was a retired farmer and retired from the Cooper’s Fire Department. “Poss” was greatly loved and he will be thought of often and remembered with thoughts that will warm the heart.
“Poss” is survived by his loving wife of fifty-seven years, Marlene Joyner Winstead of the home; his sons, Steve Winstead and wife, Janet of Sandy Cross, and Greg Winstead of Sandy Cross, and his granddaughter, Caroline “Scooter” Winstead, who was his best friend and constant companion.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Wessie Dozier Winstead; his sister, Violet Sanders, and brother, James Winstead.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials in “Poss’s” memory to the Coopers Volunteer Fire Department, 2408 Volunteer Road, Elm City, North Carolina 27822.
