Janie Theresa High Theriac
January 10, 1923 – December 27, 2016
Janie Theresa High Theriac, 93, of Wilson passed away Tuesday. She was affectionately known as Ms. Janie and was a native of Wilson. She graduated from Charles L. Coon High School and trained as a professional secretary. Ms. Janie traveled and lived in Japan, Virginia, Georgia, and Florida before returning to Wilson in 1993. She was a member of the Grace Baptist Church, Wilson.
Janie is survived by her sons, Dave Wood and wife, JoAnn of Fountain, and Herb Wood and wife, Sharon of Sutherlin, Oregon; her grandson, Trevor Wood of Fountain; her nieces, Dorothy Batts Edwards of Raleigh, Elaine Batts Percival of Little Switzerland, and Helen Batts of Wilson; two step-grandchildren, Terry Samuels and Sherry Thomas; eight great-step-grandchildren; two great-great-step grandchildren, and many great and great-great nieces and nephews.
She was the daughter of the late Millan and Theresa Barnes High and sister of the late Louise High Batts and Lester High, and also preceded in death by her late husband, Herbert Wood and her second husband, Jim Theriac.
A celebration of Janie’s life will be held with her family Thursday evening from 5 – 7 p.m. at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson. A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in Maplewood Cemetery, Wilson. The Rev. Steve Strickland will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested in Janie’s honor to the Meals on Wheels, 2101 C Tarboro Street, Wilson, North Carolina 27893, as this program helped keep Ms. Janie in her home and independent for over ten years.
