After battling Parkinson’s Disease since 2016, Nancy is at peace. Born to Harold and Dora Bilodeau Lee in Clinton, Massachusetts, then transplanted at 10 years of age to the fertile soil of Elm City, she blossomed into womanhood between sisters Carolyn (Aldridge) and Dora (Turner) plus a host of close friends. She attended Georgetown Visitation Prep in Washington, DC, then NC Wesleyan College, and later graduated from the University of North Carolina. Just prior thereto, she had caught the eye of a fellow Carolina undergrad, who plagued her with his attentiveness, until she joined him in marriage in 1968. Thereafter, Nancy made a home for Bob Farris, worked to provide for him as he attended law school, and completed her degree in English. Caroline (Quinn now Olson) (Kevin), Joe (Ashley), and Will (Cambron), filled the home she built with love, leading to ten grandchildren; Sam and Lillie Quinn; Gabriel (Bailie), Solomon (Lydia), Michael, Max, Gemma, and Isaac Farris; and Eli and Jacob Farris; plus one wonderful great granddaughter, Elise Farris and special family member Octavus Barnes; all of whom brought her much delight. Supporting Bob and her family thoroughly, she somehow found time to assist her church, St. Therese, particularly by setting up the Sunday School (CCD) program when St. Therese School closed in 1974 and helping, then leading, the Bereavement Committee for many years, and ministering to shut-ins. Nancy was active in her children’s schools and many community affairs, helping the Wilson Pregnancy Center, Wilson Crisis Center, Programs against Child Abuse, Barton College, and the Arts Council, among others, always with a smile. She will be missed.
There will be a Visitation Thursday night, December 12, at Joyner’s Funeral Home from 6-8 and a Rosary following. A Celebration of life will be held Friday December 13, 2024, at St. Therese Catholic Church at 11:00 am with graveside in Maplewood Cemetery.
The family extends its special thanks to her many relatives and friends, her caregivers, the staff at the Cottage at Spring Arbor, the Wilson Wound Center, and Hospice of Wilson.
Condolences directed to Joyner’s Funeral Home and Crematory at www.joyners.net.
