Norman Glenwood Morgan of New London, NC, formerly of Wilson, NC, aged 75, passed peacefully on Wednesday, September 4th, in the presence of his wife, Dianne, and his daughter, Cindy, at his home.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, September 9, 2024 at Grace Baptist Church, 644 Edgemont Street, Albemarle with funeral services and burial in Wilson on Tuesday. The family will receive friends Tuesday afternoon, September 10, 2024 from 12 - 1 p.m. at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Pkwy, Wilson, with the funeral service at 1 p.m. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park, Wilson. Rev. Delane Burris will officiate.
Born and raised in Wilson County, NC, Norman spent the majority of his life there, building strong roots in his community. He proudly graduated from Rock Ridge High School in 1967, a milestone that marked the beginning of a life of service and dedication.
Norman answered the call to serve his country as a proud member of the U.S. Army, fighting courageously in Vietnam. His bravery and dedication were recognized with several honors, including the Good Conduct Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, two Bronze Medals and the prestigious Purple Heart.
After many years of hard work and dedication, Norman enjoyed a fulfilling career at Ready Construction, where he eventually retired. He also dedicated himself to serving his fellow veterans, volunteering his time with the Disabled American Veterans (DAV), The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), and the American Legion.
A man of deep faith, Norman was a devoted member of Grace Baptist Church in Albemarle, NC, and also formally served as a Deacon at Richfield Baptist Church. He was a dedicated Christian, living a life of service to both his church and community.
Family and friends were at the heart of Norman’s life. He cherished gatherings, often finding joy in catching up over a shared meal. During the Christmas season, Norman delighted in playing Santa, spreading joy to both children and adults. He and his beloved wife, Dianne, shared a passion for riding Goldwing’s, and together they were honored as the Goldwing Couple of the Year in the Greenville Chapter.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the hospice staff for their compassionate care and support during Norman's final days. Their dedication and kindness made a profound difference in ensuring he was comfortable and surrounded by love.
Norman leaves behind a loving and devoted family, who will forever cherish the memories they shared with him. He is survived by his devoted wife of 27 years, Dianne Morgan; daughters: Cindy Clayton and her husband Sam, of Richfield, NC, Wendy Hatley and her husband, Jason, of New Londona, NC, Angie Morgan Batts, of Wilson, NC; grandchildren: Grace Ensley and her husband Ethan, of Mount Pleasant, NC, Jacob Clayton of Richfield, NC, Breanna Burleson of New London, NC, Madilynn Burleson of Albemarle, NC, Courtney Houston and her husband Scout, of Hilton Head, SC, Anna Batts and Dawson Batts of Wilson, NC; great-grandchildren: Asher James Ensley, Kora Rose Ensley, Kingston McKenny, and Knoxlee Dianne Wilder; brother, Ricky Morgan of Bailey, NC; sister, Brenda Morgan Carpenter and her husband Lee, of Wilson, NC; and several beloved nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Everette “Ed” Morgan and Irene Bissette Morgan; brothers: Bobby Wayne Morgan and Ronnie Everette Morgan; and nephews: Kevin Thomas Morgan and Brian Everette Morgan.
