Olna Dempsey Winstead, Jr,

O.D. Winstead, Jr., 95, of Wilson passed away Sunday.
A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson. Dr. Doug Murray and Pastor, David Barnes will officiate. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
O.D. proudly served in the US Army during WWII in the Asiatic Pacific Campaign. He was a member of the Shriners and a Mason for 50 years. He was a past Chairman of the Board of the Silver Lake Fire Dept., and served on Board of Directors for 20 years. O.D. also served on the Wilson County task force for “Better Law Enforcement”. He was a member of First Baptist Church. He served as Royal Ambassador for Elizabethtown Baptist. He was a strong supporter of the Elizabethtown Band Booster Club. He played baseball in the Coastal Plains League from 1939-1941 and was an avid fisherman. As the owner of Southeastern Tire, he made many friends across the state, while promoting his business.
He is survived by his daughter, Betty Winstead and fiancé, Tom Wiseman of the home; his sons, Dewey Wooten Winstead and wife, Lisa of Brandon, Florida; Ronald D. Winstead and wife, Penny of Elm City; grandsons, Gregory Edge( Tatum) of Black Mountain; Trevor Winstead of Tampa, Florida; eight step-grandchildren; special caregiver, Betty Radford; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Wooten Winstead: parents, Olna Dempsey, Sr. and Lessie Williams Winstead; sister, Evenly Wells; and brother, Bob Winstead.
