Oscar Powell Atkinson

Oscar Powell Atkinson September 23, 1942 – April 26, 2015 Oscar Powell Atkinson, 72, of Middlesex passed away Sunday, April 26, 2015 at the Vidant Inpatient Hospice House in Greenville. A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday in Hollywood Cemetery, Middlesex. The Rev. Ricky Anderson will officiate. The family will receive friends 7 – 9 p.m. Tuesday evening at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson and other times at the home, 7042 Antioch Church Road, Middlesex. Oscar is survived by his brother, Jimmie “Jim” R. Atkinson of Wilson; his sister, Jean Strickland of Wendell; step-son, Robert Wayne Davis of Atlantic Beach; step-daughter, Dawn Davis Flora of the home; and two step-grandchildren, Hunter Wayne Davis and Dana Bryant. He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Ann Atkinson; his son, Oscar P. Atkinson, Jr.; his parents, William Oscar Atkinson and Nancy Narron Atkinson; his brother, Charles W. Atkinson; and his sisters, Edna Hopkins Phillips and Myrtle Deans.
