Oscar Ray Pierce Sr., 88 of Wilson, passed away peacefully Monday, October 26, 2015 at the home of his daughter, Darlene in Appomattox, Virginia. A graveside service will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, October 29, 2015 in Parson-Martin Cemetery, Princeton, North Carolina.
The family will receive friends 7 – 9 p.m. Wednesday, October 28, 2015 at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson.
Oscar was born in Princeton, North Carolina, to Oscar Kennedy and Amy Martin Pierce on May 24, 1927. He served his country with honor and pride with the US Army, as a Paratrooper.
Oscar is survived by his daughter, Darlene Vannoy; his sons, Robert Pierce, Oscar Pierce, Jr., and Dale Bryant; twelve grandchildren; twenty great- grandchildren; ten great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, and many friends who called him Papa.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Amy Martin Pierce and Oscar Kennedy Pierce; his first wife, Cora Spence Pierce and his second wife, Mildred Alford Pierce; grandson, Oscar Ray Pierce III; his brothers; Ralph Ivy Pierce and Eugene Pierce, and his sisters, Jesse Pierce Davis and Myrtle Pierce Tyler.
