Paul N. Blake, Jr.
July 5, 1936 – January 7, 2017
Paul N. Blake, Jr., of Wilson was born July 5, 1936 and passed away Saturday, January 7, 2017 following a courageous battle with cancer.
A life-long resident of Wilson, he was a wise yet modest, gentle and quiet man who was loved by all who knew him and a true friend to many. His quick, dry wit was contagious and filled many hearts with laughter. He most loved spending time with his family and close friends and was a supportive and committed husband for over fifty-eight years.
Following graduation from Atlantic Christian College, he taught and coached in the Wilson County Schools before going into business for himself. He was successful, independent businessman for over forty years. In his leisure time he enjoyed shooting skeet competitively, duck and bird hunting with his family and friends and watching ACC football and basketball.
A dedicated member of First Baptist Church of Wilson, he previously served as a deacon and found meaningful fellowship and spiritual growth with his devoted Sunday school friends.
He is survived by his loving wife, Eleanor Herring Blake; son, Paul N. Blake, III of Wilson; daughter, Anne Blake Lindley and husband, D. Stuart Lindley of Kinston, and his grandchildren, Paul N. Blake, IV of New York City, W. Elias “Eli” Stewart Blake of Atlantic Beach, and Anne Grayson Lindley of Kinston.
A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, January 11, 2017 in Maplewood Cemetery, 400 College Street, Wilson. The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 p.m. Tuesday, January 10 at the family home, as well as after the service on Wednesday.
