Peggy Ann Gaither Ellis, 88, of Elm City, passed away Saturday. Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Monday evening at Joyner’s Funeral Home, Wilson. Private burial will be held for the family. Pastor Wayne Whitley will officiate.
The Family will receive friends Monday evening from 6 – 6:45 p.m. at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson and other times at the home of Tim and Penny Ellis.
Lovingly known as “Granny”, Peggy lived a life full of passion. She dearly loved her family and would share with everyone news of her grandchildren. Always the hostess, her children and grandchildren visited regularly always having a friend or two tag along. Peggy and her husband Sidney enjoyed the outside and worked tirelessly tending their yard of beautiful roses and various plants. Fishing was a big hobby as well. Everyone that visited was willing to wet a hook down by the water and join in on the tall fish stories.
Peggy first had a career as a baker. She shared this talent making delicious cakes and goodies for family and friends. She later returned to school and became a licensed beautician owning and operating Elm City Beauty Shop. It was where all the grands received their first haircut. She owned and operated the shop for 20+ years.
Peggy was a member of Bethesda Baptist Church in Boydton, Virginia. There she served on several committees and sang in the choir. Her family was often recruited to join the choir when visiting.
Peggy’s loving and gentle spirit will forever leave a mark on all the hearts she touched.
Peggy is survived by her daughter, Cynthia Ann Ellis Whitley and husband, James; sons, Sidney “Tim” Earl Ellis, Jr. and wife, Penny, and David Wayne Ellis and wife, Donna; grandchildren, Crystal Lester and husband, Rob, Amanda Hinnant and husband, D’Arcy, Chad Ellis and wife, Meagan, Tyler Ellis and wife, Allison, Sidney Earl Ellis III and wife, Mary and Carter Ellis and wife, Ashley; twelve loving great grandchildren, and her brothers, Billy Gaither, and Rick Davenport and wife, Debi.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Sidney Earl Ellis, and her parents, Newsome Gaither, and Molly Millwood.
