Peter Brian Lawrence

Peter Brian Lawrence, 86, of Wilson passed away Wednesday. His memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Church of Saint Therese, 700 Nash Street, Wilson. The Rev. Gregory Lowchy will officiate.
Peter was born on March 27, 1929 in Bronxville, New York to Helen and John Lawrence. He served in the U.S.A.F. from 1950 – 1954. Peter received his Bachelors and Master’s degree from Queens College City University of New York, and then he received his doctorate from Nova University in Florida. Peter was an educator for more than fifty years. At the time of his retirement, he was the superintendent for the Lawrence Public School District in New York. After moving to Wilson, he either worked or volunteered at various schools which included Rocky Mount Academy, Greenfield, Enfield Academy and Saint Therese Catholic School.
He was a member of the Church of Saint Therese and an active member of Knights of Columbus (4th degree) and the Elks Club for many years, and served as exalted ruler. He loved the challenge of golf and was an avid player.
Peter is survived by his loving wife of twenty-eight years, Barbara Warlick Lawrence; his children, Paul Lawrence, Gayle Alexander, Peter Lawrence, Leslie Sullivan and husband, Glenn, Robin Minear and husband, Jeffrey, Brian Lawrence and wife, Teresa; his step-children, Beth Johnston Thomas and husband, John G., and Cathy Johnston Bowen and husband, Jerry; his grandchildren, Dorian and Devin Pumalo, Kelly Sullivan, Jake Lawrence, Sara and Barbara Anne Thomas and Alex Bowen; his niece, Deborah Lawrence, and his nephews, Leslie and Rick Lawrence.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Helen Lawrence; his sister, Betty Lawrence and his brothers, Jack and Leslie Lawrence.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested in Peter’s name to the Church of Saint Therese, 700 Nash Street E, Wilson, NC 27893.
