Philip “Phil” Edward Winstead, 78, of the Town Creek community, passed away on Friday, June 16. The family will receive friends Monday, June 19 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson, and at other times at the residence. A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, June 20 at 2:00 pm at First Christian Church, 207 Tarboro Street NE, Wilson. Reverend Jamie Brame will officiate.
Phil was a graduate of Fike High School and Wilson Community College. He was a licensed electrician for many years and retired from Firestone after 34 years of faithful service. In his free time, Phil coached softball and loved to play tennis. He was a long-time choir member, deacon, and elder at First Christian Church of Wilson.
Phil is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Sue “Susie” Smith Winstead; daughter, Laurie Tyson and husband, Bill of Stantonsburg; son, Steven Winstead of Elm City; grandson, Noah; sisters, Kay Reinmiller and husband, Dick of Nebraska and Tyre Cale and husband, Larry of Wilson; nieces, Deanne Winstead, Megan Cale, and Michelle Reinmiller; and nephew, Michael Reinmiller.
Phil was preceded in death by his parents, Edward “Ed” Winstead and Grace Shealy Winstead.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Christian Church Choir Fund, 207 Tarboro Street NE, Wilson, NC 27893.
