His early years included teaching teenagers at Peace Church. He went on to speak at many churches as he had the opportunity, and more recent years included a Senior Sunday School Class that he loved dearly.
Preston worked tirelessly for his family through many endeavors. He worked with The Wilson Daily Times. Then worked his way up from the JC Penney store at Parkwood Mall to the North Hills location in Raleigh and eventually worked in the home office in Atlanta, Georgia as Sales Promotion Manager for Georgia, Alabama, and Tennessee. With intentions of getting closer to Wilson, Preston went to work for Homeway Furniture, a chain of eighty-six stores based in Raleigh. His experience there led him back to Wilson where he opened a store of his own - Gregory’s Furniture Corner, eventually adding Gregory-Thomas Development Co., GT Homes and Gregory’s Mini Storage.
