Randy Matthews
August 8, 1955 – March 4, 2016
Randy Matthews, 60, of Elm City passed away peacefully Friday at his home, surrounded by his loving family and friends. His funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at Joyner’s Funeral Home, Wilson. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park, Wilson. The Rev. Wayne Whitley will officiate.
The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson.
Randy had close to thirty-three years of service with BB&T in Information Technology. He began as a Stock Clerk in the bulk storage area in 1983 and with his incredible work ethic moved through various areas of IT finishing his career as an Enterprise Application Integration Architect. Randy was a large contributor to the successful opening of BB&T’s first Call Center that opened in 1997. He won the BB&T Chairman’s Innovation Award two years in a row with a third time award being shared among his team. Randy’s ideas and many accomplishments were instrumental in the success of the BB&T Phone Channel. He loved Carolina athletics and attended both the 2005 and 2009 National Championships. He spent his time away from work at the Outer Banks driving out on the beach, fishing, cooking out and socializing with close friends. He enjoyed gardening at his home on weekends and considered his pets as kids. Randy will be truly missed by all who knew him.
Randy is survived by his sisters and brothers, Roy Matthews and wife, Jean of Lucama, Linda Godwin and husband, Wayne of Wilson, Bonnie Barnes Thrasher and husband, Steve of Wilson, Vicki Bunn and husband, Charlie of Kenly and Kelly Matthews of Lucama; his nieces, Kim Deans and husband, Larry of Wilson, Katrina Jennings and husband, Johnny of Wilson, Brittany Lamm and husband, Christopher of Sims, and Tammy Matthews of Lucama; his nephews, Jason Pipkin and wife, Jamie of Sims, Lance Matthews of Lucama and Taytn Matthews of Lucama; long-time special friends Brian Carr and wife, Jenny of Elm City, Mark Carraway and wife, Lynne of Elm City, David Wiggs and wife, Tami of Wilson, Nancy Graham and husband, Bubba of Wilson, and Cindy Campbell of Wilson, and his beloved pets Fletcher, Mattie and Bud.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Elizabeth Hoyle Matthews.
Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made in Randy’s memory to a charity of one’s choice.
