Rev. Benjamin "Benny" Wayne Poythress

Rev. Benjamin “Benny” Wayne Poythress, 84, of Elm City, crossed over into the gates of heaven on Saturday. A Graveside Service will be held at 2:00, on Thursday, December 1, 2022, in Maplewood Cemetery. Rev. Mike Stocks will officiate.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service.

Benny was a servant by heart and nature. He dutifully spent 42 years in the United States Military and retired as a Master Sergeant in 1998. While he remained in the Army Reserve, he also held a successful career with AVX / Corning Glass out of Raleigh and retired in 2000. He loved the Lord and carried on his message during his 60+ years of being a Pastor at Calvary Pentecostal Church. Benny loved his family and friends, one of his favorite pastimes was spending time with them. Benny will be missed dearly by all who were lucky enough to know him.

Benny is survived by his loving wife, Joan Poythress of the home; sons, Daryl Wayne Poythress and wife, Sarah of Holly Springs, Gregory Lynn Poythress and wife, Christy of Greenville and Michael Brian Poythress of Goldsboro; grandchildren, Ashlyn Grace Poythress of Greenville, Kate Michael Poythress of Tennessee, Chandler Austin Poythress of Greenville, Andrew Bowen Poythress of Holly Springs, David Reid Poythress of Holly Springs and Madison Brook Poythress of Goldsboro.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Bertha Poythress.
