Reverend John Thomas Sessoms
February 12, 1925 – June 30, 2016
Reverend John Thomas Sessoms, 91, of Elm City passed away Thursday. His funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at Westview Baptist Church, 3408 Sunset Avenue, Rocky Mount. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:45 – 1:45 p.m. at the church. Interment will follow in Forest Hills Cemetery, Nashville. The Rev. Bill Coffey and Rev. Moody Roberts will officiate.
Rev. Sessoms served his Lord and Savior for thirty-six years as a Missionary in Brazil. He served his country with honor and pride; he was a Bronze Star recipient for World War II and an active member with the VFW in Elm City. Rev. Sessoms was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.
Rev. Sessoms is survived by his daughters, Gloria S. Corbett and husband, Luke of Wendell and Patricia S. Linton and husband, Vernon of Wilson; his sons, John A. Sessoms of Elm City and Philip C. Sessoms and wife, Helen of Raleigh; granddaughters, Elizabeth S. Melhalko and husband, Joe of Richmond, Olivia J. Sessoms of Charlotte and fiancé, Jeremy Akins and Heather Corbett of Wendell; grandsons, John D. Sessoms and wife, Aly of Rocky Mount, Kevin Corbett and wife, Nikki of Goldsboro; great-granddaughter, Lily Ann Sessoms of Rocky Mount and his brother, Joe Sessoms of Florida.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Olive D. Sessoms and their daughter-in-law, Michelle L. Sessoms.
