Richard Allan McKellar

Richard Allan McKellar, 80, of Wilson passed away Monday after a few months of declining health. A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday, August 6, 2015 in Oak Lawn Cemetery, 737 Albermarle Road, Asheboro.
A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, August 11, 2015 at the First Presbyterian Church, 414 Sunset Road, Wilson. The Rev. Dr. Tom Watkins will officiate.
The family will greet friends Tuesday afternoon following the service at the First Presbyterian Church and other times at the home.
Richard was born March 7, 1935 in Evansville, Indiana to the late Thomas Peter McKellar and Martha Gentry Mckellar. He graduated from Asheboro High School in 1953. Richard devoted his entire career to the dairy industry, beginning with his graduation from Clemson University with a Batchelor of Science and a Master’s Degree in Dairy Science. Richard held several management positions within the dairy industry including Sealtest Dairy in Winston Salem, Biltmore Dairy in Asheville and MelloButtercup Ice Cream. Richard served as president of the North Carolina Dairy Foundation Board and has been a CVDP board member for successive years.
Richard was a founding member of New Hope Presbyterian Church in Arden. He was an elder, clerk of session for two terms, and the treasurer of the men of the First Presbyterian Church of Wilson for many years. Richard was very active with civic organizations including leadership positions with the Jaycees and Rotary Clubs during his lifetime. He received an award from the Rotary for twenty-six years of perfect attendance. Richard served as president of the Wilson Rotary and Assistant Governor of Rotary International District 7720. Richard was an avid golfer and he enjoyed traveling with his loving wife, Mary.
Richard is survived by his wife, Mary Eva Griffin McKellar. They celebrated their 50th year wedding anniversary, June 13, 2015. He is also survived by his special in-laws, nieces and nephews.
