Robert Edward Garner

Robert Edward Garner, 100 of Wilson passed away Saturday, July 27, 2024.  A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, August 26, 2024, in Oak Grove Memorial Gardens, 3712 Cheek Road, Durham.

 Robert was born in Augusta, Georgia to William and Maude Garner. He spent his childhood in Reidsville. He served his country with honor and pride with the US Army in WWII and later, he served in the National Guard. In 1944 in married his love, Martha, and after the war they moved to Durham and raised their four children. He worked with Liggett and Myers Tobacco Company for over forty years and as a head mechanic. Robert enjoyed retirement and spent several years living on Kerr Lake before moving to Montpellier, Virginia and finally to Wilson.

Robert is survived by his children, Janet Ferne Smith Garner, Randall Leon Garner, Barry Gregg Garner, and Darryl Kieth Garner.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of sixty-nine years, Martha Elizabeth Garner; parents, William and Maud Garner; sisters, Evelyn Marie Garner, and Dahlia Maydene Garner, and his brothers, Claude Oliver Garner, and W.L. Garner, Jr.
