Robert Brooks Petway, Sr.

December 10, 1928 – November 20, 2013

Robert Brooks Petway, Sr., 84, of Elm City went to be with the Lord on Wednesday.  Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday at Joyner’s Funeral Home.  Interment will follow in Maplewood Cemetery.  The Rev. Sunny Griswold will officiate. The family will receive friends 7 – 9 p.m. Friday at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson. Robert was a veteran of the US Air Corp and US Air Force, serving in the post occupation of Japan and the Korean War.  He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.  He will be truly missed by all.  He had special talents involving painting, sketching and wood carvings.  We will cherish all of these he left behind. Robert is survived by his five children Emma Jean Small, Robert Brooks Petway, Jr., Dail Brent Petway, Allen Britt Petway all of Elm City and Bruce Petway of Rock Ridge; his nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Bernestine Moore Petway.  Condolences may be directed to www.joyners.net.
