Robert Leon Wellons found his eternal peace on Thursday, January 2, 2014.  He was born and raised in Micro, NC on November 2, 1935, to James Clarence Wellons and Mary Delia Kittrell Wellons.  After graduating from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1958 and proudly serving his country in the U.S. Army in Schweinfurt, Germany, he met and married the love of his life, Joan Wesley Brown Wellons, and settled in Wilson, NC to build a family and career. Leon is survived by his loving wife, Joan Wesley Brown Wellons; his son and son-in-law, Robert Leon Wellons, Jr. and David Corey Trautvetter of Dallas, TX; son and daughter-in-law, James Wesley Wellons and Christine Gill Wellons of Fort Mill, SC and their children, Eden Olivia and Kate Elizabeth.  He is also survived by his two sisters, Ann Woodard and husband, Kenneth and Joyce Jones and husband, Donald; his sisters-in-law, Jo Ann Wellons and Bee Wellons; his six nephews; thirteen nieces; numerous cousins and friends; his longtime best friend, Ray Lynch and his beloved Lady – the Boston Terrier he always wanted. Leon was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, James Wellons and wife, Mary, William Wellons, and Ralph Wellons; and his sister, Evelyn Fogelman and husband, Henry. Leon was a longtime member of the Wilson Masonic Lodge, Sudan Shrine and the Moose Lodge.  He was also an avid golfer and a wiz at numbers. Funeral services will be conducted 3:00 p.m. Sunday at Joyner’s Funeral Home.   A graveside service will be conducted 1 p.m. Monday in Selma Memorial Gardens, S Pollock Street, Selma. The Rev. Ray Wells will officiate. The family will receive friends 1:00 – 2:45 prior to the service on Sunday at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson. Flowers are welcome or memorials may be directed to the Sudan Shriners Hospital for Children, 403 East Front Street, New Bern, NC  28560-4916. Condolences may be directed to www.joyners.net.
