Roney Gene Minshew

Roney Gene Minshew, 76, of Wilson passed away Saturday, March 29, 2025. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 3, 2025, in Maplewood Cemetery, Wilson. Rev. Wayne Whitley will officiate.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service in Maplewood.

Roney served his country with honor and pride with Company E; 2nd Division, Battalion 1; U.S. Army Airborne. Roney graduated from Fike High School in 1966. He enlisted in the Army and by age 19 was training to be a Green Beret soldier at Fort Bagg in Fayetteville. Roney has jumped out of airplanes thirty-seven times. He commented that they were all scary, the last one the most. He also noted that he had never seen or felt anything like the first jump, and it was the best of all. After his military career, Roney returned to farming tobacco in Wilson County until his retirement. Roney was a loving father and grandfather.

Roney is survived by his daughter, Julia R. Fielding and husband, Marcus of Wilson and his three granddaughters, Abby, Emily and Olivia.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Irwin O. Minshew and Miriam W. Minshew.
