Rosa Lee Baker was a faithful Christian woman and a skilled cook. Much of her family remembers gathering in her home for Sunday lunches, where she lined the table with fried chicken, collard greens and scratch-made biscuits.
Her grandsons played basketball in her front yard so often that the grass died off, leaving dirt patches where they ran.
She provided endless laughs to those she was closest to. She was blunt and witty without realizing her own sense of humor. Rosa Lee was unapologetically herself regardless of her circumstances.
As a young woman, she labored. In her home, in her kitchen, and on her father’s farm.
Once married, she rose with the sun to make breakfast for her family. She then set out toward the fields, working with the same drive as the men working alongside her.
She returned to prepare lunch. Rosa Lee repeated that routine each and every day during farming season.
Her family will hold tight to memories created in her presence. They will remember her laughter and boldness.
She was born August 16, 1935, to Herbert and Lina Harrell.
Rosa Lee Baker is preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Moses Baker; son, James Ray Baker; brothers, Pete Harrell, Irvin Harrell, Ray “Bubby” Harrell, and Billy Harrell; sisters, Gray Walston and Helen Owens, and her grandson, John Allen Baker.
