Rosa Richardson Watson
May 24, 1943 – September 20, 2018
Rosa Richardson Watson, 75, of Kenly passed away Thursday. Her funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Buckhorn United Methodist Church, 8102 NC 42, Kenly. Interment will follow in Buckhorn United Methodist Church Cemetery, Kenly. The Rev. Carol Dean will officiate.
The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 1 – 1:45 p.m. at Buckhorn United Methodist Church, Kenly and other times at the home of her son, Byrum.
Rosa was a member of the Haliwa-Saponi Indian Tribe and attended the tribal school. After graduating with her associate degree from Bacone Indian University in Oklahoma and her bachelor’s degree from Pembroke State University, Rosa returned to the Haliwa-Saponi Tribal School to begin her teaching career. She taught in the Johnston County School system for the remainder of her career, teaching second grade for thirty-seven years. Rosa raised two loving sons and was an adored Gigi to five granddaughters.
Rosa is survived by her sons, Linwood Watson and wife, Turi of Fuquay Varina and Byrum Watson and wife, Elizabeth of Kenly; granddaughters, Aspen Watson and Skye Watson both of Fuquay Varina and Wesley Watson, Ellie Watson, and Lila Watson all of Kenly; sister, Lady Lou Richardson of Hollister and her nephew, Willis Richardson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Worth “Pop” Watson; parents, Theolis and Pennie Evans Richardson; sister, Collie V. Richardson and her brothers, Charles Richardson and Theolis Richardson, Jr.
