Roy Alton Sherrod, Sr., 78, of Wilson passed away Friday.  A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday in Maplewood Cemetery, 400 College Street, Wilson.  The Rev. Gene Wells will officiate. The family will receive friends 6 – 8 p.m. Saturday at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson and other times at the home. Roy was a retired officer with the Wilson County ABC Board and a retired security guard with Wilson Medical Center. Roy is survived by his wife, Joyce Turner Sherrod of the home; his sons, Roy Alton Sherrod, Jr. and wife, Mary Ann of Elm City, David Wayne Sherrod of Wilson and Jeffrey Allen Sherrod and wife, Brenda of Bailey; his daughter, Ashley Michelle Sherrod of Raleigh; his grandsons, Michael Edward Sherrod, Jonathan David Sherrod and Joshua Roy Sherrod and his great-grandson, Gavin Daniel Sherrod. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Roy Sherrod and Minnie Lilley Sherrod and his grandsons, Delton Alton Sherrod and Matthew Eli Sherrod.
