Sherman Rex Bissette

Sherman “Rex” Bissette, 66, of Wilson passed away Wednesday. Funeral services will be conducted 10 a.m. Saturday at Joyner’s Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park. The Rev. Johnny Sullivan will officiate. The family will be at 3402 Widgeon Street, Wilson. Rex was a loving, father, son, brother, uncle and friend to all that knew him. He will be greatly missed and thought of often with laughter, smiles, tears and memories that will warm the heart. Rex served 38 years in the community college system, 28 of those at Wilson Community College, where he most recently served as Director of Financial Aid. He was an avid outdoorsman, as he loved hunting, fishing and spending weekends at Emerald Isle. Rex was a volunteer in the Wilson community, serving Meals on Wheels and working in the soup kitchen. Rex is survived by his son, Parker Bennett Bissette of Raleigh; his daughter, Jessica Vann Bissette of Raleigh; his mother, Hazelle Bennett Bissette of Wilson; his sisters, Nancy Bissette Strickland of Walstonburg and Judi Etheridge and husband, Clyde of Wilson; his brother, Jesse Bissette and wife, Jody of Wilson; his partner, Kathy McVey of Wilson; his nieces and nephews, Jeremey and Joshua Strickland, Adrian and Ashley Bissette, and Austin Etheridge. He was preceded in death by his father, Sherman H. Bissette and a brother-in-law, Paul Strickland.
