Stephen Noble Mitchell
June 11, 1940 – July 28, 2015
Stephen “Steve” Noble Mitchell, 75, of Middlesex passed from this life to his eternal reward on Tuesday. His funeral service will be conducted 7:30 Friday evening at the Middlesex Church of God Worship Center, Middlesex. The graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, August 1, 2015 in the Brantley Family Cemetery, Hwy 231, Middlesex. The Rev. Ed Toler and the Rev. Don Mitchell will officiate.
The family will receive friends 5 – 7:15 p.m. Friday evening at the Middlesex Church of God Worship Center, 5407 NC Hwy 231 South, Middlesex and other times at the home.
Steve was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend to everyone he knew. He was employed with Fluor Daniel for thirty-five years until his retirement. Steve enjoyed farming, hunting, fishing, church softball and serving everyone in the community. In his later years, he traveled to the Dominican Republic to build churches and serve the people.
Steve is survived by his loving wife of fifty-five years, Georgia Cone Mitchell of the home; his son, Darryl Mitchell and wife, Melody of Smithfield; his granddaughter, Shelley Higgenbottom of Galax, Virginia; his grandson, Chad Higgenbottom of Smithfield; his sister, Nellie Gray Peele of Middlesex; his sisters-in-law, Cornelia Mitchell of Kenly, Jane Snell and husband, Jimmy of Middlesex and Kay Cone of Middlesex, and his brother-in-law, Dennis Cone and wife, Jordice.
He was preceded in death by his son, Wayne Mitchell; his grandsons, Seth Douglas Mitchell and Jonathon Wayne Mitchell; his parents, Noble Guy and Maybelle Boykin Mitchell; two sisters; and three brothers.
Flowers are welcome or memorials can be made in Steve’s memory to the Middlesex Church of God Worship Center, Dominican Republic Project, 5407 NC 231 South, Middlesex, NC 27557.
