Stephen Craig Stancil
January 11, 1957 – August 5, 2015
Stephen “Steve” Craig Stancil, 58, of Kenly passed away Wednesday. A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday in Evergreen Memorial Park, Wilson. Pastor Jerry Barbee will officiate.
The family will receive friends 6 – 8:30 p.m. Saturday at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson and other times at the home of his mother.
Steve was in law enforcement for thirty years, where he proudly served the Wilson and Nash County Sheriff’s Department. He retired as the Chief Bailiff for the Nash County Sherriff’s Department and while there he started the first D.A.R.E. program in Nash County. After retirement, he continued to meet monthly with other retired officers for fellowship. He attended the New Beginnings Free Will Baptist Church. Steve was a loving son, brother, uncle and friend to all that knew him and he will be greatly missed.
Steve is survived by his mother, Marian “Peggy” Stancil of Wilson; his brother; James “Jim” Alvin Stancil (Cathy)of Wilson; his sisters, Joan Stancil Thompson and Marian Stancil Lamm both of Wilson; his uncles, Jay Yarbrough of Little Rock, Arkansas and Ray Stancil, formerly of Nash County; his nieces, Tish Summerlin (Steve) of Wilson, Kelly Barnes, (Billy) of Black Creek and Lee Anne Edwards (Justin) of Wendell; his nephews, George Thompson III and Marshall Bass both of Wilson; BJ Poston his loving cousin of Wilson and his special friend, Judy Yates of Johnston County.
Steve was preceded in death by his wife, Ollie Grant Stancil; his father, James Alvin Stancil, Sr.; his brother, Danny Andrew and his nephew, Alvin Stancil Thompson.
