Terry Readling Wright
August 20, 1939 – September 12, 2021
Terry Readling Wright, 82 passed away after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease. He was the oldest son of late Howard Wright and Elsie Readling Wright.
Terry attended the North Carolina School for the Deaf in Morganton and graduated in 1960. He enrolled at Gallaudet College (now University) and majored in History. He joined the Kappa Gamma Fraternity. Upon his graduation in 1965, he chose to remain in Washington, DC and worked in various government agencies, primarily the United States Geological Survey in Reston, Virginia.
Upon his moving back to North Carolina, he settled in Mecklenburg County to be closer to his family and worked with non-profit organizations such as Goodwill Industries group home. Terry enjoyed spending his time by being involved in the deaf community. He also loved art in any form, taking art classes at Central Piedmont Community College. Terry showed that art was a passion for him. He enjoyed teaching American Sign Language (ASL) by doing part time work at Central Piedmont Community College in Charlotte. Terry worked as Eastern North Carolina School for the Deaf as an American Sign Language teacher for the employees.
Terry is survived by his brother, Hal W. Wright and wife, Dianne of Wilson, and his nephews, Albert W. Wright of Wilson, and Alton F. Wright and fiancé, Alexandra Flaherty of Raleigh.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hayward Wright, Sr. and Elsie Readling Wright, and his brother, Hayward Wright, Jr.
Inurnment will be scheduled at a later date and will be held in Bethel Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Cornelius.
