Thomas Edwin Roberts

Thomas Edwin Roberts February 28, 1931 – September 27, 2015 Thomas “Tom” Edwin Roberts, 84, of Wilson passed away Sunday. His memorial service will be held 3 p.m. Thursday at the West Nash United Methodist Church, 2200 W. Nash Street, Wilson. The Rev. Stuart Milton will officiate. The family will receive friends 4:30 – 6:00 p.m. Wednesday at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson. Tom was inducted in the Athletic Hall of Fame in September of 2003 at Lincoln Memorial University for basketball. He was president of the Southwest Little League Organization during the 1960’s, when it was the world’s largest little league. Tom is survived by his wife, Evelyn P. Roberts of the home; his daughters, Teresa Lynne Roberts of Lucama, and Leslie R. Cockrell and husband, Doug of Wake Forest; his son, William “Bill” Thomas Roberts and wife, Susan of Mt. Holly; his grandchildren, Gregory Alan Roberts, II, Christopher Benjamin Roberts, Thomas Woodman Cockrell, Watson Robert Cockrell, Allison Nicole Roberts, and William Thomas Roberts, II; three great-grandchildren, Anna Grace Roberts, Tess Elizabeth Roberts, and Emily Mei Roberts, and his sisters, Pat Murphy, Doris Wilson, and Sondra Stanfield all of Anderson, Indiana He was preceded in death by his son, Gregory Alan Roberts.
