Virginia O. Proctor
June 5, 1917 – December 10, 2016
On this day, December 10, 2016, the world lost another of its earthly angels. Virginia O. Proctor, of Wilson, passed away peacefully at Spring Arbor Assisted Living surrounded by family. She lovingly touched so many lives in her 99 years on this earth.
Virginia was born June 5, 1917, daughter of Harley M. and Bessie C. Owens of Wilson County. She married Joshua H. Proctor on June 15, 1935, and this union was blessed with four sons and two daughters.
After the death of her husband, in 1967, she enrolled and graduated with a two year Business degree from Wilson Technical Institute. Immediately upon graduation, she was employed by the State of NC (NC Special Care Center) and remained there until her retirement at the age of sixty-five. After retirement, she cherished time spent with family, friends and her church family. Virginia joined New Hope Baptist Church in 1955 and devoted her time and love to its members and the surrounding community. Her favorite pastime was working outside and being among her lovely flowers. At the age of 85, she entered Spring Arbor Assisted Living and began a different lifestyle with new friends, new challenges and fun and exciting things to learn.
Always tender, kind and caring, our Mother will be lovingly remembered by her son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Tammy Proctor of Wilson; daughters Jennie P. Closson of Raleigh and Brenda Davis of Wilson; daughter-in-law Ann Proctor of Spartanburg, South Carolina and former daughter-in-law, Emma K. Wallace of Wilson; thirteen grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren, many extended family members, and a host of friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by all eight siblings, her three sons, Donnie G. Proctor, Travis H. Proctor, and Marvin D. “Mark” Proctor, and her son-in-law, Charles “Chuck” T. Closson.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to the staff of Spring Arbor for the compassionate care and support provided to our mother for the past fourteen years. You truly made a big difference in her daily life. Thank you.
