Walter Kent Dawson, Sr. April 23, 1939 – March 14, 2019 Walter Kent Dawson, Sr. 79, of Lucama passed away Thursday.  His funeral will be conducted at 4 p.m. Monday at Joyner’s Funeral Home, Wilson.  Interment will follow in Black Creek Town Cemetery, Black Creek.  Rev. Johnny Taylor will officiate. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 7 – 9 p.m. at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson and other times at the home. Walter is survived by his wife, Faye W. Dawson of the home; daughter, Shelia D. Vanderpool and husband, Mike of Lucama; sons, Ken Dawson, Jr. and wife, Donna of Wilson, Tim Dawson and wife, Karen of Wilson, Chris Dawson and wife, Nona of Elm City and Tony Dawson and wife, Elizabeth of Lucama; grandchildren, Kristin Hicks and husband, Curtis, Bryan Dawson and wife, Brooke, Chelsie Stevenson and husband, Lloyd, Haley Dawson, Cody Dawson, Jacob Dawson, Brantly Dawson, Dustin Dawson and wife, Mindy, Tyler Dawson and wife, Dana, Rachel Vanderpool and Josh Vanderpool; great-grandchildren, Justin Hicks, Jett Dawson, Felicity Dawson and Tyangel Hill; sister, Geraldine Bass of Wilson; brother, James Dawson of Black Creek and his mother-in-law, Ola Woodard of Wilson. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Christopher Neil Dawson, Jr.  and sister, Betsy Bynum.
