Wanda Lynn Shaw Dunbar

Wanda Lynn Shaw Dunbar April 18, 1960 – September 11, 2015 Wanda “Nana” Shaw Dunbar, 55 of Rocky Mount, departed this world on Friday, September 11, 2015, and entered the gates of Heaven. She was born in Montgomery County on April 18, 1960 to Diane Shaw and the late, Henry Jesse Shaw, Sr. Wanda was a homemaker and the widow of J.C. Dunbar. Wanda was an angel to the people of this world and has now officially earned her angel wings in the arms of the Lord. Words cannot express how much she will be missed and the tears that will flow because of her passing. She had the most wonderful and giving heart, the most welcoming demeanor, the most beautiful smile, was the best cook of southern home cooked meals, and always encouraged her daughter that she could be anything that she dreamed. Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Tonya Dunbar Suarez and husband, Raymond Suarez of Mechanicsville, Virginia; her grandchildren, Raymond and Tyler Suarez of Virginia; her mother, Diane Shaw of Rocky Mount; her sister, Debbie Cone and husband, Dayton of Castalia; her nieces, Crystal Thorpe and husband, Walter of Rocky Mount, Brooke Huntington and husband, Ricky of California, Kristy Norris and husband, Buddy of Big Stone Gap, Virginia, and her special friend, Steve Walker of Rocky Mount. She was preceded in death by her father, Henry Jesse Shaw, Sr., and her brothers, Henry Jesse Shaw, Jr., and Rodney Gene Shaw. In lieu of flowers, her daughter is requesting prayers and acts of kindness in order to celebrate the life and contributions in Wanda’s honor to a charity of one’s choice. The family asks everyone whose life Wanda touched and everyone reading this to pray the following for her family and friends throughout this difficult journey: “Strength to live our lives without her, Courage to become better people, and Peace to know that Wanda is safe, without worries, and resting in the land of the Lord.” We also ask that you do something that will touch the lives of others and continue doing so from this day forward. “Mama, your spirit will live through the hearts of people who love you.” A celebration of Wanda’s life will be held 11 a.m. Friday at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson. The family will receive friends following the service. Condolences may be directed to www.joyners.net.
