Wilburn Ernest Small, Jr.

Wilburn Ernest Small, Jr., 76, of Wilson, passed away Wednesday. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, January 28, 2023, at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson.

Wilburn was known best for his love of family and friends. He was employed with the City of Greenville in the Fire and Rescue Department before retiring as Assistant Deputy Commissioner with the North Carolina Department of Insurance, Fire and Rescue Division, where he made many lifelong friends. He was an avid fisherman and loved visiting Portsmouth Island.

Wilburn is survived by his loving wife, Cynthia Stancil Small of the home; son, Christopher D. Small and wife, Julie of Florida; grandsons, Cameron and Grant; sister, Betty Correll; his beloved furbabies, Dee Dee and Gabby; mother-in-law, Dorothy Stancil, and extended family Lonnie and Martha Stancil, Terry and Tim Davis, Matthew and Becky Stancil, and a host of loving nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilburn and Louise Small.
