William Harrison Jenkins
January 5, 1936 – November 24, 2018
William Harrison Jenkins of Elm City died shortly after midnight on Saturday, Nov. 24, at the age of 82. Bill, as he was known by his friends, was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Janice Pridgen Jenkins; daughters, Lynn Jenkins Thaxton and her husband, Will and Kim Jenkins Rawlings and her husband, Russell and his grandsons, William Christopher Thaxton and Harrison Lloyd Thaxton. Survivors also include sisters, Elizabeth Webb, Janice Glover and her husband, Cordie, and Brenda Harrell and her husband, John; brothers, AC Jenkins and his wife, Linda Kay, and Wade Jenkins and his wife, Fran and a special family friend, Al Winstead.
Bill Jenkins was born on January 5, 1936, the son of Wade Harrison Jenkins and Virginia Jenkins Jobe, by whom he is predeceased. He retired from Universal Leaf Tobacco Company in 1985.
By measure of things that matter, Bill lived a rich and rewarding life. An expert fisherman, he especially enjoyed fishing with Janice in the waters off Atlantic Beach, where they maintain their second home. But his greatest joy came through watching the accomplishments of their children and grandchildren and knowing in his heart that Jesus Christ was his Lord and Savior.
The family will receive friends Tuesday afternoon from 1 – 1:45 p.m. with his funeral services following at 2 p.m. at Elm City Baptist Church, 206 Wilson Street, Elm City. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park, Wilson. The Rev. Gene Wells will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Elm City Baptist Church, P.O. Box 667, Elm City, North Carolina 27822.
