William David Pope Sharpe, III
October 13, 1937 – April 26, 2020
William David Pope Sharpe, III, 82, of Wilson passed away Sunday. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 29, 2020 in Maplewood Cemetery, Wilson. The Rev. Robert Bergland and Rev. Charles Robl will officiate. The family will receive friends following the service in Maplewood Cemetery.
William is survived by his loving wife, Jean Lewis Sharpe of the home; daughter Martha Levey of Emerald Isle; son, William David Pope Sharpe, IV of New York City; granddaughter, Marianna Ahlquist of Emerald Isle; grandson, William Ahlquist of Swansboro and his sister, Bettie Bagley Rowe of Thomasville.
William was a graduate of Fishburne Military School in Virginia as well as UNC-Chapel Hill with a BA in Political Science and Master’s in Education from East Carolina University. He worked in the education system in Beaufort, Nash and Wilson counties for thirty years. William served as a Wilson County Commissioner from 1974-1986. He was a member of Masonic Lodge 117, Shriners and First United Methodist Church.
Throughout his life he had many interests such as yo-yoing, bike riding, beekeeping, boating, and farming. He always enjoyed hunting with his dogs. William was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
